Alex Morono steps in to take on Donald Cerrone at UFC on ESPN 24

Alex Morono will be stepping in on short notice to fight Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone at UFC on ESPN 24. Cerrone was originally slated to fight Diego Sanchez, but the UFC decided to cancel the bout and part ways with Sanchez. Alex Morono (18-7 and 1 NC) vs Donald Cerrone (36-15 and 2 NC’s) is expected to serve as the card’s co-main event.

The last time Cerrone obtained a UFC victory was back in May 2019, when he defeated Al Iaquinta via unanimous decision. Cerrone hasn’t had a great stretch over his past 5 fights, losing four straight before his most recent fight against Niko Price that was declared a majority draw. The draw against Price was later overturned due to Price testing positive for marijuana.

Cerrone has the most finishes (16) and the most wins (23) in UFC history, which are records he’ll be looking to expand upon this Saturday.

Morono’s last UFC appearance was against former UFC lightweight champion Anthony Pettis, where he suffered a unanimous decision loss. Morono has won 3 of his last 5 UFC bouts, with wins over Rhys McKee, Max Griffin, and Zak Ottow.

UFC on ESPN 24 can be seen live on ESPN on May 8th.
