NFL and Rams 780 Million Dollar Settlement With St. Louis Over Relocation

The LA Rams and the NFL have agreed to pay $790,000,000 to settle a lawsuit over the Rams abandonment of St. Louis. This settlement allows the Rams owner Stan Kroenke and the league to avoid a trial that was set in St. Louis next month just before the Super Bowl at Kroenke’s new stadium in Inglewood.

The terms of the settlement involve St. Louis receiving the money no later than the 24th of December. The league and Kroenke will have to decide how much each party will pay amongst themselves. The lawsuit, which was filed in 2017, claimed that the Rams move from St. Louis to LA violated the NFL’s relocation policy. The settlement specifically states that neither party will acknowledge any kind of liability.

Oakland sued the league on similar grounds over the Raiders move to Las Vegas, but lost. There is currently an appeal pending in the Raiders situation.

The settlement does not include an expansion team for St. Louis and the settlement involves 35% of the money being awarded to the attorneys representing St. Louis. 35% of this settlement is $276.5 million, which is a pretty great payday for the attorneys representing St. Louis.
