Eddie Alvarez's DQ Loss at ONE on TNT is Now Officially a No Contest

Eddie Alvarez squared off against Iuri Lapicus in a fight that was declared a disqualification loss for Eddie due to strikes to the back of the head on April 7. That DQ decision has now officially been overturned to a no contest.

This decision was made by a panel of ONE Championship officials, referees, judges, and independent industry experts. The panel acknowledged that strikes to the back of the head did occur, but ruled that a procedural misstep took place after the second blow to the head.

The panel decided that the bout should have been halted and a warning should’ve been issued after the second strike to the back of the head happened. This means that Eddie’s red card has been retracted, with a yellow card being issued in its place. The no contest ruling was made in fairness to all parties involved in the incident.

The multiple shots to the back of the head took place during a ground and pound sequence in the very first round. The official time of the stoppage was 1:02 of round one.

This event took place in Singapore, where the organization serves as its own regulator for its events. Alvarez’s record is now 30-7 (2 No Contests) and Lapicus’ record is now 14-1 (1 No Contest). Eddie Alvarez already has another fight booked that is taking place Wednesday, April 28th in the co-main event of ONE on TNT 4, where he will be fighting Rae Yoon Ok.
